Positive thoughts are empowering. A negative attitude can set processes in motion that makes losing weight difficult, if not impossible. Berating yourself every time you eat the wrong foods, constantly focusing on what you cannot eat and approaching your exercise regimen with dread are all ways that negative thought patterns can sabotage your weight loss efforts. -FitDay.com
You can help yourself succeed just by thinking that you can succeed. If you tell yourself negative things like—”I can’t do this. Why bother?”—change will be harder. But if you encourage yourself with thoughts like “I can do this,” you can raise your chance of success. -WebMD.com
The principle is competing against yourself. It’s about self-improvement, about being better than you were the day before.

Do you hold yourself to the standards of other people, wishing you could be better than the next guy? Maybe this is motivating you, but an even greater skill is to just want to be better than yourself. How about pushing yourself to eat better, or walk longer after dinner each day? Goal setting is a great way to “compete” against yourself. You select an end result that you want in any concentration that you choose. Then, it is up t you, and only you, to achieve those goals. Thus, you’ll be pushing yourself towards greatness, not creating unnecessary competition against others.
